Fall Bake Sale (with Bonus Recipe)
Fans of our newsletters will know that we hold a bake sale in the spring and fall to support Markham Food Bank. On Thursday November 7th we held our fall bake sale and it was our most successful ever.
Let’s start with the finances because the goal of the event is all about how much we are able to raise for the Food Bank. Each time we hold the bake sale we do a bit better than the time before. For this sale – we shocked ourselves. We raised $641. We counted, then counted again and then debated whether that was even possible.
But hard cold cash (actually a bit warm after all that counting) doesn’t lie. Most items were no more than $2 or $3: If you do the math, that’s a lot of food!

The Integral Team – including spouses – brought in an impressive bounty of the most delicious cakes, cookies and cupcakes (and more) imaginable. As you can see on the photo above, one small change we made this year, in response to feedback, was to put potential allergens on the price cards. A huge thank you to everyone who brought in food.

The success of the sale also depends on our loyal customers and they turned out in full force and were so very generous. As with most office buildings, we don’t see a great deal of our neighbours except on occasions like this: Occasions when we are standing in the building lobby with lots of lovely food. People started to queue up as soon as we opened for business and spent liberally. We also corralled guests visiting the building and delivery and trades people towards our bake sale and that, too, helped with the impressive success of the sale.
People told us to ‘keep the change’. One woman couldn’t make it down to the lobby and didn’t want food – but sent a coworker with a cash donation. People treated their friends and others brought containers of goodies back to their offices. Although retired, Integral’s founder made a special trip in to shop at the bake sale – despite the nasty weather. Her contribution was over-the-top generous – thank you Emma for your support!
Besides benefitting a very worthwhile cause, the bake sale was just fun. There was a positive energy, a sense of camaraderie and community. Thank you to everyone who came to the sale – you guys are the best and truly embraced the spirit of giving.
